"On TV, I wasn’t ready because the mask was horrible, the gear was horrible, and the gimmick was horrible. What you saw was not Scrypts, you saw Blink Man," Akeem said. He emphasized his role as a team player, going along with the creative's vision, but ultimately felt frustrated by the outcome.
The current Soleil character, as Akeem explains, represents everything SCRYPTS was supposed to be. He now has creative freedom to execute the vision he wrote in 2020, free from the constraints of the original creative direction. The name Soleil, meaning sun in French, pays homage to his time with Cirque du Soleil, and Akeem embraces the character as a symbol of courage and confidence.
"I put the mask on as a sign of courage and confidence to show that no matter where you come from, no matter what you’ve been through or what people tell you you can’t do, that there’s a superhero inside of everyone," Akeem said. This new character allows him to showcase his true vision and break free from the limitations he faced in the past.
